SRIBS' "Wu Huayong Studio" Named 2024 Shanghai Craftsman Innovation Studio
Recently, the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions held the 2024 Shanghai High-Skilled Talent Development Conference, recognizing a new batch of Model Worker and Craftsman Innovation Studios. The "Wu Huayong Bridge & Tunnel Smart Operation and Maintenance Craftsman Innovation Studio" of Shanghai Research Institute of Building Science (SRIBS) was honored as a 2024 Shanghai Craftsman Innovation Studio.
About the Studio
Led by Shanghai Craftsman Wu Huayong, Chief Engineer of the Institute of Transportation and Municipal Engineering at SRIBS, the studio comprises a multidisciplinary team of 16 experts specializing in bridge engineering, structural engineering, AI, big data, and more. The team includes 9 PhDs, 7 Master's degree holders, 4 senior engineers, and 5 associate senior engineers.

Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the studio has focused on key national and municipal infrastructure projects, achieving significant breakthroughs in bridge and tunnel smart maintenance. It has received multiple provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, including the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award and the Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award. The team has contributed to over 10 industry standards, such as the Technical Code for Bridge Jacking and Relocation and Technical Standards for Sound Barrier Structures. Additionally, they have pioneered new safety assessment and monitoring technologies, securing 16 invention patents and 25 utility model patents.
Moving forward, the studio will continue to enhance smart inspection technologies, develop AI-based damage detection, and promote digital transformation in bridge maintenance. Through intelligent diagnostics, real-time monitoring, and predictive maintenance, it aims to optimize resource allocation and improve infrastructure safety.
